Pets Service

Our Pets Service on 13th July 2008 was a barking, mewing, squeaking squawking success, with 31 pets accompanying over 150 people to this annual celebration of God's creation!

If you're reading this and haven't been to a Pets Service before, we can tell you that it was very like any other Family Service at St. Michael's - which is not very like services anywhere else! But we did sing 5 songs, had a reading, a talk and prayers, and had lots of fun. At the end of the service, when it came to the Blessing, there was the Blessing of the pets too - and we each said a prayer for our own pets. It's a prayer we can say anytime, and in case you'd like to say it, here it is:

Dear..............

I have called you by name, you are mine.

Because you are precious in my sight

and because I love you,

I will guide you and protect you,

I will feed you and provide for you.

May God who made us both,

and who loves all that He has made,

be a blessing to you

as you are a blessing to me,

in the Name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

There were 13 dogs, 12 guinea pigs, a tarantula spider, a cockatiel, 3 cats and... a newt. We didn't get a photo of the newt (the owner said "it's minute"!), but below are some photos of the congregation - and one of St. Michael's Band and Junior Band, playing together for the occasion.
