John's Big Day - Part Two!

A year ago - and he says the time has flown by - our Curate Revd John  Chandler was ordained Deacon in Chelmsford Cathedral. Sunday 22nd June was the occasion of his ordination as Priest, by the Revd Christopher Morgan, The Bishop of Colchester. The service took place in St. Michael's on an (unseasonally!) warm and sunny afternoon, when the packed Church enjoyed an excellent service. The preacher was Revd Margaret King, Team Vicar in the North Hinckford Team Ministry; The Archdeacon of Colchester, the Ven. Annette Cooper and the Director of Ordinands Revd Canon Richard More vouched for John; and 27 priests came forward to lay hands upon him during the service.

This was a joint celebration; Revd Richard Allen, Curate at St. Leonard's Lexden was also ordained Priest, and it was wonderful to welcome the choir and congregation of St. Leonard's for the occasion, with music led by the choir and St. Michael's band. The Church looked lovely, with flowers in every available location and banners all around the walls - and it was good to chat with so many people at the Reception in the Halls afterwards.

Here are a few photographs of the occasion. Firstly, Richard has supplied this photo of John (left), Bishop Christopher and Richard;

next, Myland's Priest-in-Charge, Revd Ray Gibbs, joins the group; and alongside him is Revd Harry Lee, John's cousin from Co. Durham who travelled to Colchester for the occasion (51 years since he was ordained Priest!).....

... then we see John and June cutting the cake, baked and decorated by Ivy Dix (that's Ivy, on the left). It was tasty, too!

And, finally, another showing Revd Harry Lee and the Bishop with John, who might be saying: "I look up to him....!
