CAM has been operating in Mile End, north Colchester, since June 2006 and is funded by Colne, Estuary, Suffolk Heritage, Places for People, Colchester Borough Council (CBC) and Myland Parish Council to provide a community development service to the area until the end of May 2009.

Our key project aims are:

  • To develop a stronger sense of community in Mile End and to build cohesion between long-term and new residents

  • To encourage more joint-working between agencies serving Mile End

  • To develop more community facilities in Mile End to meet local needs

  • To provide more things for young people to do

  • To reduce anti-social behaviour in Mile End

The project previously operated as CONEC (Community Outreach in North and East Colchester) for 3 years in the Hythe area too, with additional funding from the Housing Corporation.

To date CAM has awarded over £30,000 of grants to local projects

and has helped secure over £161,300 of external funding for the area.

The question of sustainability of projects that CAM supports is considered at all stages and every level of CAM’s operation. Supporting and enabling groups to develop the capacity to identify and deliver projects themselves through building skills and developing appropriate partnerships is essential to CAM’s success.
