Homes
are in the news at the
moment here in Myland; the 2,200+ planned for the north west of the
Parish; work on the Severalls site is due to start soon, leading to
1,500 homes; the continuing development of the Myle and Cuckoo
Point, to our east; and both Turner Village and New Braiswick Park
are growing daily in the south of the Parish. Of course, when the
building stops, they’ll just be houses— only when people move in can
they become homes, and only then can those homes begin to form
communities.
Thankfully, many people
are thinking ahead to those days, encouraging planners to provide
local facilities and pleasant and peaceful environments where
communities can form and flourish; and we’re doing that right now in
many ways, by our work around the Parish as well as in Church and in
the Halls.
Homes have an extra focus
for us this Lent: as well as our Home Groups for fellowship and
Bible study, two of our Lent Groups are now meeting in homes. Every
home can also take part in our response to the Bishop’s Lent Appeal,
remembering the impoverished people of South India with a small
donation each time we make a hot drink! Then, right in the middle of
Lent, we celebrate that most vital of influences on the home—on
Mothering Sunday. Let’s take time to thank all the mothers we know,
for their love, faithfulness and example as home-makers. May all our
planners have the hearts of loving mothers!
Plans are already under
way for every home in Myland to receive an Easter Card from the
three Churches. It will be good for us all to take part in this
loving task, by folding or delivering the cards. And as we deliver
them, let’s pray for each house, each home behind each letter box,
that our heavenly Father will draw us all together in community,
looking forward to the great promise (2 Peter 3:13) of the eternal
home.
Yours in the love of
Jesus,
Ray, John, Colin, Rosie, Esther
