Here is the letter from the Staff Team, which
forms the front page of this month's Newsletter:
On
6th February 1952, a young lady’s life changed for ever.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was proclaimed Sovereign of the
United Kingdom and all Commonwealth countries, and then began a
reign of happy and obedient commitment to her subjects and to a
life of service. This year, we will be celebrating all that her
Majesty has meant to us over these last 60 years.
on 12th February in St. Michael's, a number of
young ladies will make commitments to service, as our new
Guiding Unit gather at our Family Service to dedicate themselves
and their flag. Those two occasions can hardly be compared -
except that in each instance there is a realisation that our
very existence is one where we are called to serve, to value the
people around us, and to live a life worthy of God and honouring
to everyone.
All our Uniformed Organisations will be
represented at that service, and we’ll be there of course - so
that’s a great opportunity to re-dedicate ourselves in our
promises to God. Promises are mentioned over 200 times in the
Bible, and in most cases it’s God who does the promising! From
His many promises to Abraham (Genesis
18:19, for example) to the greatest promise ever— the
eternal life (1 John 2:25)
promised before the beginning of time (Titus
1:2), God shows He is the One who is trustworthy in all
his promises, and faithful in all He does (Psalm
145:13). Indeed we are all children of promise (Galatians
4:28)!
In our Family Service, our Guides will declare:
“I Promise that I will do my best; to love my God, to serve my
Queen and my Country, to help other people and to keep the Guide
Law”. Scouts say the same, and their law is: “A Scout is to be
trusted… loyal… friendly and considerate… belongs to the
worldwide family of Scouts... has courage in all difficulties…
makes good use of time... is careful of possessions and
property… and has self-respect and respect for others.” Is that
you, too? Of course it is—then why not promise that to God
today, perhaps by praying Psalm 119:57:
“You are all I want, O
Lord; I promise to obey Your laws”.
May He bless you, as He has promised!
Yours
in His Name,
Ray,
