Book Club

Most of us enjoy a good read, whether it’s the latest historical bestseller, celebrity tell-all memoir or a re-read of an all-time favourite - and the greatest read of all is, of course, the Bible. Reading the Bible is time spent with God, hearing His word and moving forwards on our journey in the Christian faith.

But have you considered that there are other books you could be reading as well to help you on this journey? Books that provide additional inspiration and opportunity for reflection and conversations with God; helping you to grow in the knowledge of His love, and encouraging you to see His world from different perspectives.

St. Michael’s Christian Book Club meets every other month at 8pm in the Board Room, Myland Parish Halls. Led by Ray, we meet to chat about the book we’ve just read and issues it raises. Recent books have included: Jail Bird by Sharon Grenham-Thompson, a thought provoking memoir of the author’s life as an Anglican priest at Bedford prison and her personal road to priesthood; Being Disciples: Essentials of a Christian Life by Rowan Williams, an enlightening guide to how we can enhance growth in faith for ourselves and others; and Dethroning Mammon: Making Money Serve Grace by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, an engaging reflection on the pressures of our modern world and how we deal with them (our Lent book 2017).

The book we are reading at the moment is Judas: The Troubling History of the Renegade Apostle by Peter Stanford, an historical and cultural biography of Judas Iscariot.

We'll be discussing our latest book at our next meeting on 5 June. You are welcome to join us. If you can’t make it then, how about joining us at other meetings during the year? Scheduled dates are below:
