Myland Fete, August 2010

Eddie The Eagle swooped in as the surprise guest competitor at the Churches Together in Myland stalls, at the Myland Fete on August Bank Holiday Monday. Being good with the ball, Eddie enjoyed throwing the ball into the bucket - but members of Mile End Methodist Church, who managed the stalls, were wise to keep the Eagle away from the "hook-a-duck"!! It was a really busy and happy day; especially so for Mr Del Hyde, who won two tickets for a Colchester United match. Well done, everyone!

Cafe and Craft Sessions, Summer 2010

We all enjoyed the Cafe and Craft sessions during the summer holiday.....

We made "people";.....                    rode on Thomas the Tank Engine;.....enjoyed the slide;

"cooked" in the kitchen;.....                              watched with mum;.....                                       decorated biscuits and cakes;

   got messy with shaving foam;...                                           designed T-shirts....

or just slept through the whole proceedings!

The Miller Family - Coffee Morning & Sale: August 2010

It was a joy to welcome the Miller family - Roy, Janette, Jonathan and Benjamin (how the boys had grown!) - back from Malawi for their summer break. Having now spent 2 years in Malawi, where Roy is a doctor at a CURE Hospital, we received an update on the work there, along with news of family life. We were enthralled by the work the hospital is able to carry out to dramatically improve the lives of children and we were fascinated by photographs of the Malawi countryside and family events. We thank God that they continue to be led and provided for. They go with our prayers and good wishes when they return to Malawi at the end of August, for another year. About £100 was raised for CURE International.

Regular readers, surfers or visitors to the Church will know all about our Coffee Mornings, and also our Bring & Buy sales.

In July 2010, when we raised £172.50 for Help for Heroes. Several members of the local community came along - this was one of our most popular Coffee Mornings, no doubt as this vital Charity is deep in the hearts of our people here in Myland. Here's a couple of photos from the event:

In Christian Aid Week, May 2010, we supported Christian Aid at our monthly Coffee Morning - of course! It was good to welcome so many people, and we are grateful to you all for your kind donations and eager purchases, all of which resulted in £150 being raised for this important cause. Here are a few photos; seeing how happy we are, doesn't it make you want to come to our next one? They're usually on the third Saturday of the month, but do check our News page for the next date.

November 2009 was the annual occasion of our Coffee Morning in aid of Samaritan's Purse. We received 30 shoeboxes for the appeal, and also raised over £100 for the Charity which does such excellent work. here's photographic proof of the event; everyone looks quite studious and pre-occupied, but we can assure you that it was a happy and fruitful occasion!

Harvest Lunch

We had a wonderful time at our Harvest Lunch, revelling in God's faithful and generous provision for us. We were so well catered for, and we remembered the great contrast between our plenty and others' needs. We remembered the work of Tearfund and raised £42.50 for that organisation. We also sent non-perishable foods to Whitechapel Mission in London, and, Toiletries to Beacon House, as part of our Harvest Celebrations. Here are a few photos of our joyful day....

Monday 31st August 2009:

Myland Fete

Mile End Methodist Church played our full part in the Fete held on August Bank Holiday Monday, in celebration of Myland Parish Council's 10th anniversary. We manned the stall for Myland Churches Together, and raised lots of cash with our "ball in the bucket" game. The whole day was a tremendous success. Here are some photographs, featuring our Village Crier and the Fete being opened by Myland resident Joe Dunne, Caretaker-Manager of Colchester United, and activity at our stall.

Saturday 8th August 2009:

Coffee Morning in aid of CURE Hospital, Malawi

At the end of last year, Roy, Janette, Jonathan and Benjamin Miller left us to set up home in Malawi, where Roy began working at CURE Hospital in Malawi. It was a bold decision to make, and a massive culture-change for them all, as they left family, friends and familiar surroundings for a completely different environment.

What a joy it was to welcome them back to Mile End Methodist Church, during their summer break - and to hear their news. They were all so enthusiastic about the work, the people around them and their surroundings in the beautiful country of Malawi - which is also one of the poorest countries in the world, and where there are many areas of dire need. It was good to see photographs of their home, the local countryside and wildlife, and Roy's work. Such things tell us that they are happy there, and also that the Lord is leading and protecting them as they obediently follow His will. The family head back to Malawi in late August, assured of our prayers and continued interest - and they take the proceeds of the Coffee Morning, an impressive £182.50.

Meal and Holy Communion, Maundy Thursday 2009

Holy Week and Easter 2009 were significant events in our year - recognising the significance of these times in the life of Jesus! On Palm Sunday, we joined with the other Churches Together in Myland, hosting a full breakfast, joining the walk to St. Joseph's where the Palm Crosses were blessed, and on to the Communion Service at St. Michael's.

Then on Maundy Thursday, we hosted a "simple meal" (but there was certainly plenty to eat!) which was followed by Holy Communion, led by Revd. John Allison. Thanks to Keith for providing these photographs....

The more we remember the momentous events of Jesus' final week, the more we can truly celebrate Easter. And we did!

In come the shoeboxes!

Our Coffee Morning in November 2008 was in aid of the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal, and in a busy morning visitors brought 34 shoeboxes and bought £145.12 worth of goodies, which all adds to the Appeal.

Needless to say, lots of coffee and conversation added to the appeal of this regular monthly event - so watch out for details of future coffee mornings, and enjoy Saturday mornings with us! Here's a little photographic record of the morning....

October 2008's Coffee Morning - a popular event

The Coffee Morning this month included a "bring & Buy Stall" and was in aid of the East Anglian Children's Hospice. Nearly £140 was raised, including £32 on a stall run by local supporters of EACH -

.... and whether the morning's popularity was down to the attraction of this worthy cause, or whether people are just pleased to support good causes whilst having a good natter, we might never know!

But these photos tell the story - there was hardly a moment during the morning when the  stallholders could take a breather, with people from all parts of the community enjoying a sunny and happy  morning.

Now let's make sure the November event is an even greater success!

It's on November 8th, 10am - 11:30am,

in aid of the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal).

July Coffee Morning raises £114 for Anti Slavery International

On 12th July 2008, our regular Charity Coffee Morning was in aid of Anti Slavery International, and £114 was raised by a wide variety of initiatives -

coffee, of course, a FairTrade Stall, and even a "guess the weight of the slave" competition! Here are the slave and his master - such fortitude, to smile under such adversity!
